Thomas "Bo" Ellis and 'God's Country'

Bo and I shared the same four years at Baldwin-Wallace College, three of them as brothers of Phi Kappa Tau. As freshmen, we played on the Yellow Jacket baseball team and shared rides to the visitor sights, with “Bo” providing both inspiration and comedic relief. No matter the score, he was upbeat, brimming with faith and ready to take advantage of the next opportunity. Later, he toted a rambunctious bunch of us over to ‘God’s Country’ to experience Mansfield football and family hospitality, Ellis-style. Sundays, I would sometimes accompany him to services at the Newman Center—-he rarely missed, no matter what was happening on campus; he set the bar high on that one and I stumbled a few times. Over the past few months, I’ve been fortunate to have visited with Bo on a couple of occasions. He was the same guy, only stronger: a positive perspective, still brimming with faith and (justifiably) full of pride and joy for his fabulous family. He remained fixated on the future. I’ve thought of him often over the years and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. He was a true-to-life character who sported a lot of character. And, although he set the bar high, one day I hope to run into him again in ‘God’s Country.’
