GARY A. WEISS, retired Akron Postmaster, born March 22, 1941 was called by Jesus on Sunday, 8/26/18 at age 77 in Brecksville, OH. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Carole Jean, dearest sons, Russell (Kathy) and Rodney (Monica), loving grandson Ryan, great granddaughter Alexis "Lexie", dear sister Gayle Widlewski (Ron), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Al and Gladys Weiss and dear brother William.

Gary graduated from Parma High School, and attended Duke University and U. of VA. With 37 proud years of postal service beginning as a letter carrier, Gary was promoted to many PCES (Postal Career Executive Service) positions: Akron Postmaster, Postmaster of Brunswick, Manager of North Royalton Post Office, Cleveland District Director of Marketing & Communications, and District Director of Field Operations. His temporary positions included Acting Lead Processing and Distribution for the Akron District, Officer-in-Charge at Hudson, OH, Acting Postmaster of Mansfield, Canton, and Youngstown, OH. Gary also worked for the U.S. Census, served as State President of the federal organization of NARFE, served on the Ohio Department of Aging, State Board of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Athletic Trainers, and member of the Brecksville Department of Human Services Board.

Family and friends will be received at NOSEK-McCREERY FUNERAL HOME, 8150 BRECKSVILLE RD., BRECKSVILLE, OH 44141 on Thursday, August 30, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Gary's funeral service will be held at Triune Lutheran Church, 4810 W. Mill Rd., Broadview Hts., OH 44147 on Friday, August 31, at 11 a.m. where family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, 2580 Romig Rd., Akron, OH. Contributions may be made in memory of Gary to Triune Lutheran Church.
