Obituary for Thomas Joseph Businger

Thomas J. Businger born Jan. 17, 1931 in South Euclid and grew up in Solon, OH. Son of Maurice and Lillian (both deceased), Married to Margaret Businger (nee Wem) for 64 years. Father of Thomas, Michael (Valerie), Robert (Barbara), Richard (Paula), Margaret Spurio (Dale), and Maureen Businger. Grandfather of Kathleen, Steven, Jimmy, Joseph, Chelsi, Robert, Daniel, Claire, and Thomas. Great grandfather of 9. Brother of Mary Koye, and the late Maurice Jr., Theodore, Florence, Virginia, and James. Tom enlisted in the U.S. Army Combat Engineers, serving during the Korean War 1952-1954. He was awarded the Bronze Star and 3 Battle Stars. Upon leaving Korea in early 1954, he traveled around the world delivering UN troops back to their countries. Tom enjoyed a 10 day visit to Athens, Greece and 6 days in Ethiopia that took almost 3 months through the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea finally arriving in New Jersey. Thomas operated his own business installing PAX Intercom Telephones and commercial sound systems in many eastern states. After suffering a stroke, he was able to do wood working making clocks, children's name trains and toys. He also, turned pens and pencils on his wood lathe from exotic woods, He was a member of Northern Ohio Railway Museum at Chippewa Lake, Ohio, making wood plaques and various parts for restoring vintage streetcars. He was also a member of VFW Post 2133. Family and Friends will be received at NOSEK-McCREERY FUNERAL HOME, 8150 BRECKSVILLE RD., BRECKSVILLE, OH 44141 on Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 4-7 pm. Prayers at the funeral home Friday, July 27 at 9:30 am followed by Thomas' Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, 8700 Brecksville Rd., Brecksville, OH 44141. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville, Ohio on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at 10 am (PLEASE MEET AT CEMETERY). Donations in Tom's name can be made to Hospice of Medina County Inpatient Unit, 5075 Windfall Rd., Medina, Ohio 44256.
