Ann L.  Toneff (nee Thornton)
ANN L. TONEFF (nee Thornton), 93, passed away on April 15, 2017 at home, holding her husband Bill’s hand. Ann was born in Handley, West Virginia July 29, 1923. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Oberlin University, and then earned her Master’s degree in Education from Kent State University. Ann was a gifted primary teacher in Garfield Heights Public Schools having taught there for 30 years. She was the recipient of a Jennings Scholarship. Since 1953 Ann has been an active member of Chapter CA of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Ann loved the natural world, especially birds. She also loved classical music, travel and the adventure of birding. She was an active member of the Kirtland Bird Club of Cleveland. Ann and Bill have enjoyed 68 years of married life. The last 55 years in Brecksville, where they have been active members of the United Church of Christ. Ann will be missed by so many friends throughout all of these communities. There will be a private burial service on Monday, April 24, 2017. A memorial service will be announced later. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Brecksville United Church of Christ or the Nature Conservancy in Ann’s name would be appreciated.
